July 5, 2017 Instruct ERIC established
Instruct is the pan-European research infrastructure in structural biology, making high-end technologies and methods available to users. On July 4, 2017, the European Commission adopted the decision to grant Instruct the official ERIC status. The Netherlands Centre for Electron Nanoscopy (NeCEN) at Leiden University forms, together with the Bijvoet Center for Biomolecular Research at Utrecht University and the protein facility of the Netherlands Cancer Institute, the Dutch Instruct Centre.

February 2, 2017 Workshop on Management of Large CryoEM Facilities – February 6-7, 2017
NYSBC, NRAMM and SEMC present a workshop on cryoEM facility management on February 6-7, 2017. During this 2-day workshop the focus is on best practices in managing cryoEM facilities. Topics to be discussed include sample handling, instrument management, computational environments, training, user management and workflow.
NeCEN is part of a limited number of facilities that has been invited to present their workflows (Diamond, NYSBC, Janelia, Florida State, Tsinghua and UCLA are the other invited facilities). Bram Koster, NeCEN’s Scientific Director, will give two talks, one on training and one on user base.

December 20, 2016 24-26May 2017: 3rd Instruct Biennial Structural Biology Meeting
The 3rd Instruct Biennial Structural Biology Meeting (https://www.structuralbiology.eu/update/biennial2017) will take place in Brno, Czech Republic, from May 24 till May 26, 2017.
Instruct is a distributed European Research Infrastructure, which provides scientists with access to all major cutting edge technologies that enable bio macromolecular structure determination at atomic resolution. Access to all of these technologies has been available to European member researchers from February 2012. This meeting will include sessions that represent recent structural biology highlights, emerging methods and technologies and results of biomedical importance.
