Commissioning of the new Thermo Scientific Krios 5 (Cold-FEG 300 keV, Falcon 4i detector, Selectris filter) is complete at NeCEN in Leiden. An automated overnight collection on ApoF reached 1.12 Å resolution, demonstrating that the instrument is tuned and ready for user projects.
Discover our newly commissioned Krios 5 facility, meet our team at the booth, and explore our new suite of brochures, colouring books, and 3D Cryo-EM postcards at CORPUS Congress Centre.
On Thursday 26 November 2026, we celebrate 15 years of NeCEN and look ahead to the future of structural and biomedical research with the official EMPower kick-off. We are excited to announce that this year’s anniversary meeting also hosts the annual NVBMB Dutch Structural Biology Day.
As an international open-access facility for high-end cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), NeCEN enables researchers to study biological structures and therapeutic targets at high resolution. Over the past 15 years, NeCEN has grown into an essential national hub for scientists working across a wide range of biomedical and structural biology fields.
NeCEN at Leiden University is currently in the final phase of installing the newly purchased Thermo Fisher Krios5.
We currently expect starting offering beam time access at the end of September. Contact us for enquiries at necen@biology.leidenuniv.nl
