After earning a BSc and MSc in Applied Biotechnology at RWTH Aachen University (Germany), Jonas pursued a PhD in Biochemistry jointly at the University of Bonn (Germany) and the University of Melbourne (Australia), where he applied protein biochemistry and crystallography to investigate immune sensor proteins. He then continued as a postdoc in Bonn before moving to Utrecht University in 2023 for a second postdoc, gaining experience in cryo-electron microscopy techniques and applying in situ cryo-electron tomography to study the structural details of sperm cells. From November 2026, Jonas will join NeCEN Utrecht as an operator, taking responsibility for the new Krios 5 (cryo-TEM) and Hydra Bio (cryo-FIB/SEM) microscopes.
