Cryo tomographic studies

At present cryo tomography is performed on either thin biological specimens or on cryo sections of high pressure frozen samples. To overcome the limitations of cryo-sectioning Dr. Jan Andries Post (Utrecht University) wants to employ cryo Focused Ion Beam – Scanning Electron Microscopy to prepare thicker cryo sections from High Pressure Freezer (HPF) specimens. Studying the obtained specimens with the NeCEN facilities will lead to a wealth of information on the 3D architecture of cells and new insights in cellular functioning.
