NeCEN is open to research institutes and companies that can benefit from imaging of cell components or macromolecules in its near native state. These companies can be spin-outs from academic institutes from within or outside the Netherlands. Larger bio-pharmaceutical companies like Crucell, Galapagos, Pharming/DNage, the technology service provider Service XS have also expressed interest in and expect to prosper from the presence of NeCEN.
For the commercialization of proprietary knowledge, NeCEN will work closely together with the Leiden University Research and Innovation Services (LURIS), which has a strong track record of facilitating effective utilization of research results obtained by Leiden University and LUMC.
Regarding intellectual property, NeCEN will adopt a procedure based on the following principles:
- All users of the cryo-TEMs remain the sole owner of the intellectual property (IP) of their results.
- If more than one user is involved in a certain experiment (NeCEN itself being a possible party if NeCEN has an intellectual involvement with the experiment), they must enter a bi/multilateral agreement before the experiment commences.
- All non-commercial partners are free to use any foreground IP for research and education purposes.
- NeCEN will further specify this Property regulation assisted by Leiden University Research and Innovation Services (LURIS).
